Infant CPR

Footage of Natalie preparing her dummy for our infant CPR refresher course.

Home!

We made it! We all came home from the hospital together Sunday. Natalie's family is down and were able to be here when Luke and Lane came home. My family will be coming down shortly. We have to keep both kids at home until February and limit visitors, but that is cool with them because all they want to do is sleep and eat. Thanks to all who have taken care of the dog, picked up our mail and packages and generally helped us out.

Wrapping it up in the NICU!

Hello everyone,
We are close to ending our stay here at the NICU. Laney is now 4#2oz and Luke is 4#12oz. Both have been eating orally only for more than 48 hours now. Feeding tubes have been out for the past couple of days as well. Both babies have also passed their 90 minute car seat tests. Ryan and I are headed to a mandatory car seat training class this morning and we should hopefully have some more information about discharge from the NICU this afternoon. Thanks to all for their support. These babies could not be doing better and more pictures and video to come!

I hear the cries of the people

No, not the cries of the babies but the "people." When word got out that Ryan was headed back to work and that the blog entries would cease for awhile, an outrage ensued. In response, I promised to write updates minus the creative photography and movies to possibly quench the thirst of those self-proclaimed whoababies blog addicts.

Laney and Luke are continuing to progress. They are becoming more efficient eaters and they are now having 2 bottles for every 1 tube feed. This is up from yesterday where the ratio was 1:1. They are doing a great job waiting their turn to eat and they have also both lost their umbilical cords.

I will sign off for now, continuing to hope that I do not turn into a chicken finger as this is the only food I like in this hospital...

One Crib

Hi Everyone! Today is by far one of my favorite days since we've been here as Luke and Lane finally get to share a crib. I didn't realize the they were allowed to snuggle (see below) and it is by far one of the cutest things I have ever seen...ever! Both of them are still doing well and we're continuing to work on "nippling." Will keep everyone posted. Enjoy and special thanks to Grandpa for contributing the song!

12.21.07

Everyone is doing well. We were stepped down to a new unit in the NICU and both babies continue to make progress. Lane is now in an open crib. Luke had a little bit more jaundice so he is still not quite out of the incubator. Hopefully he will be out sometime today and then they will put them into a crib together. Luke has been chowing his bottle and hasn't had any oxygen sensors since last night. Lane is taking some of her bottles, but is not too interested. The doctors said this is normal and she should start getting it this week. Natalie and I continue to enjoy bonding with them.

Getting to know Luke and Lane

Below is some more video of our time for the past few days with Erica, Luke and Lane. Erica was released from the hospital today and we have so thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her. She will always be a part of our family. Luke and Lane will have to be in the hospital for a while. They are doing great and just have to put in some time to get bigger, feed better and make sure they continue to breathe so well. We will keep updating as time allows.

They are here!

They are here and we are excited. Both babies have had their CPAP (pressurized air) taken away and are just on a low oxygen. Natalie has been spending 24/7 with Erica and everyone is doing well. I will continue to update as I can. I have attached a video from yesterday.
